Five Labor Day Home Security Tips

by Parker Davis | Sep 01, 2017

Labor Day weekend is finally here and that means many of us will be venturing out for one final summer hoorah! Just be careful to remember a few important things to tighten up your home security before you go!

  • Let your favorite neighbor know you will be gone and have them keep an eye out for any suspicious behavior. You can also ask them to pick up any packages left on the front porch, grab your mail, let the pets out and water the yard.
  • Keep a light on, preferably with timers. This will prevent thieves from noticing a change in activity in your home. You can also use a smart-home approach with a mobile app that will let you control your lighting via smartphone from wherever you are.
  • Keep a car in the driveway or have your trusty neighbor park theirs in front of your house a time or two to give the impression someone is home.
  • Install a motion activated sensor, outdoor video camera, or outdoor floodlight to keep those burglars from sniffing too close to your beloved home.
  • Keep your vacation to yourself! While it may be tempting to give a live feed of your weekend getaway, broadcasting your vacation is basically telling would-be thieves you’re not home!

A smart home security system is the best way to protect your home. However these small steps can also help ensure your peace of mind while you enjoy your summer getaway.
